Fernando Jorge Clariana was born in 1937 in Bernal, Province of Buenos Aires, Argentina. He graduated his initial studies with the title of National Elementary School Teacher, and conducted further studies in law at the University of Buenos Aires. He currently resides in the United States of America.
From an early age he had a marked inclination for literature and art. He studied drawing, painting, and other aesthetic expressions first with art professor Eduardo Pardo and later with the internationally known Argentinian artist and professor Aldo Severi, participating in numerous exhibitions -- both individually and collectively in Argentina and abroad.
Fernando Clariana works predominantly with oil paint, dry pastel, and colored pencil. Most of his compositions are landscapes, still life, abstracts, colorful floral scenes, and tango dancers. He won First Place in painting at the Annual Chamber organized by the Mariano Moreno Library and Cultural Center in Bernal.
As a writer, he received a second place and honorable mention in a short story contest organized by the Ateneo Popular de La Boca, as well as first place and two additional second place prizes awarded by Almafuerte Literary Café, and a first place prize in the annual poetry contest of the Argentine Society of Writers (Subsidiary of Quilmes-Bernal). He is currently presenting his first book of poems and preparing a second book of short stories. He recently obtained a ‘Special Mention’ in a contest of short stories for his work Witness, organized by the Mariano Moreno Library and Cultural Center in Bernal.
He earned a first place prize in the fiction genre, awarded to him by the Argentine Society of Poets (SADE), and a second place prize in the poetry genre, granted by the same institution through their Literary-Honorary ceremony to José Antonio Wilde, which he performed in 2008.
While living in the United States, he received two “Certificates of Commendation” from the The Bergen Country Board of Chosen Freeholders. In 2009 & 2011, he was granted the title of "Artist of the Year" and had received five more awards, granted by the same institution. From 2005 to 2012 he participated in numerous Art exhibits organized by ICAL (Institute of Latin American Culture and Art), sponsored by the City Hall of Hackensack (Bergen County, New Jersey, USA). The City of Union City, New Jersey granted him an award for "Poet of the Year 2017" in the annual event organized by the "Society of Awards" held at the Museum and Cultural Center William C. Musto of that same town. In the same Cultural Museum, he presented his latest book of poems, titled: "Reborn, Revive," receiving very positive comments from the press and critics. Currently, he has two more books in preparation, one in prose and the other one in verse.
